Sexual Predator Seduces Teen Through World of Warcraft

Boise, ID - A teenager missing since last Wednesday has been found unharmed at a remote campground in Franklin County, Washington. Saddie "Elaine" Julian, 14, ran off with Morgon Jones, 27, after she met him through the internet.

Julian developed relations with Jones while playing the popular Internet game "World of Warcraft" developed by Blizzard Entertainment. "World of Warcraft" currently does not have any age requirements to play the game.

Police say that Jones drove from Birmingham, AL to pick up the teen in Boise on May 28th at 7a.m. Locals recognized the girl from a TV news report and notified police. Jones is currently only charged with kidnapping, awaiting further investigation.

World Of Warcraft Gamer Arrested For Kidnapping Underage Player

Morgan Douglas Jones was arrested on kidnapping charges when Saddie "Elaine" Julian, just 14 years old, ran away with him on a trip from Boise, Idaho to Franklin County, Washington. That's where Jones was ultimately arrested and Julian was recovered safely. According to police detectives, the two had met in World of Warcraft. Jones is 27 years old and apparently the police get all uptight about you transporting girls half your age across state lines.

An Amber Alert was issued for Julian last week, but authorities caught up with the two alleged WoW fans earlier today. Incidentally, Jones was driving a 2008 Chevy Aveo with the licence plate OMGROFL. It's one of those rare runaway/kidnapping stories we can laugh about! Good times.

Missing Teen Found
Posted: June 2, 2008 09:30 PM EDT
Boise teen found in eastern Washington

Boise, Idaho -- After an intense four-day search by local and regional authorities, a Boise teen has been found safe and unharmed.

Saddie Julian, 14, was discovered with a man she met on the Internet who is nearly twice her age.

"We're excited to report Saddie Julian has been found in Franklin County Washington due in a large part in cooperation with the media, the citizens and law enforcement," said Lt.Tony Plott with Boise Police Department.

Julian was discovered with 28-year-old Morgan Jones at a remote campsite in eastern Washington early Monday morning. Police say they found the two thanks to a citizen tip about Jones' car.

"The car was very unique. It stood out, it was a brand new car, bright yellow, and it had personalized Alabama licence plate," said Plott.

A friendship started between Jones and Julian after they met playing the popular online game World of Warcraft. The website lets players speak live to other gamers. According to the Office of the Attorney General, the Internet allows situations like this to happen more frequently. Up to 61 percent of 13 to 17 year olds have posted personal information about themselves online and nearly 50 percent a picture.

"Most importantly, don't post your picture on the Internet because once it's posted on the Internet it's posted there forever," said criminal investigator James Kouril.

The Attorney General also found one in seven children have received unwanted sexual solicitations online and the people committing these crimes aren't always the usual suspects.

"These types of perpetrators, criminals, people that go after children, are of all diversity all types of employment all types of education levels," said Kouril.

Although police aren't releasing much information about Jones' background, he is facing kidnapping charges whether or not Julian chose to go with him.

"It's illegal. It's actually kidnapping to entice a minor a person under 16 years of age away from their parents, so it falls under the kidnapping code as far as we can see right now," said Plott.

In a statement released today, Julian's family said:

"Through the Boise Police victim-witness advocate, the teen's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for law enforcement, media and citizens working together to find their daughter."

Boise Police say they are still investigating this case. They also say Morgan Jones could face additional charges, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Man found with girl going back to Boise
By Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer

An Alabama man agreed Tuesday to go back to Boise, where he allegedly picked up a teen girl he met on the Internet and drove about five hours to Southeast Washington.

Morgan Jones, 27, and the 14-year-old girl were tracked down Monday to a campsite in Palouse Falls State Park in Franklin County.

He was arrested on a first-degree kidnapping warrant from Ada County, Idaho, and the girl was picked up by her mother and returned home, said Sheriff Richard Lathim.

Jones briefly appeared Tuesday in Franklin County Superior Court to face an extradition request from Idaho officials.

Jones, dressed in green jail garb from the Franklin County jail, told Judge Cameron Mitchell that he would sign the necessary paperwork to return to Boise.

"I wish to waive those rights to return to Idaho," he said.

Jones currently does not face any charges in Franklin County.

According to Boise detectives, Jones and the girl developed a relationship while playing the Internet game World of Warcraft.

Jones most recently lived in Birmingham, Ala. He met up with the girl in Boise on the morning of May 28.

Police immediately launched a nationwide search, though Jones and the teen reportedly were in Benton and Franklin counties the whole time.

Franklin sheriff's deputies got a tip Monday that the two were in the park's remote campground, about 70 miles northeast of Pasco.

Campers who had returned to the Tri-Cities after spending the weekend at Palouse Falls reportedly recognized pictures of the girl and details of Jones' car from media reports.

The teen was interviewed by detectives, then handed over to her mother Monday night, Lathim said.

The sheriff's office has been working with Boise detectives on the investigation. Jones' car was searched Tuesday afternoon, he said.

Lathim expects to hand over his department's reports to Franklin County Prosecutor Steve Lowe this morning to decide if any charges should be filed in Franklin County.

Federal prosecutors may also consider charges.

The Franklin County jail will hold Jones until Boise officials can work out the logistics to pick him up, Lowe said.

Talk about slanted and biased articles...pegging him as a pedofile as opposed to someone who may have been:

a) tricked into picking her up because he didn't know her age-maybe she said she was older than she was. It happens.

b) he's just mentally stupid. It happens.

c) Over-protectiveness. Maybe she said she had a bad homelife and needed to get out and he felt he had to remove her from it. It happens.

d) all or a few of the above combined.

Either way, I hope that little chick is ashamed of herself since he's in so much trouble and she gets to go home.

You are a very compassionate person, but...give me a break.

I really doubt he thought the 14 year old girl was 18. Otherwise, why would they have been on the run? The stupid excuse doesn't work. If this did, most of our prisons would be empty. As for her having a bad home life...this is where you contact child protective services, not run away with the kid.

This guy will receive a fair trial and maybe it will turn out that he is innocent, but I seriously doubt that he had that 14 year olds best interests at heart. The story is fine. It never says that he is guilty of anything just that he has been charged with kidnapping.

I would also add that I am 99.99% sure that the victim here is the girl. She's a 14 year old kid for pete's sake!
Oh I agree that he was wrong and should be charged as such. What I'm suggesting is that she's not innocent in all of this. No way I'll believe that because in the end, he found some reason to pick her up and she didn't have to get in the car if she didn't want to. And if he wasn't in any other means tricked into picking her up then yeah...he's mentally stupid because he should know better Anyone that age should know better.

But the articles don't mention any of that. And I still think she should be ashamed of herself.

And this title says otherwise:

Why does the fact that anyone that age should know better mean the newspaper should report him being mentally stupid? Thats obvious just by reading the story, they dont need to call him stupid in the paper. If he was mentally retarded in the clinical sense, they would have reported it. For the paper to call him mentally stupid would also be slander, and hed win a helluva lot of money in court over that.

ON TOP of that, even if he was in any way tricked into it, do you really think theyre going to release integral details of a pending case to the public? No...all that shit comes out in what is called discovery. Before the case is actually in trial, no evidence or details are usually leaked, especially soon after the crime.

I know youre trying to defend the guy, but to be honest, the newspapers, other than using the word seduced (which, come on, is freaking likely in this case at least a little bit) did a fairly neutral job of reporting the story.

I'm assuming once they start releasing details about his background, we will find out just how it all really went down.

14 year olds by law don't have the right to go on interstate camping trips without their parents permission. So her willingness is rather irrelevant to the kidnapping charges.

I'm not defending him actually, I agree with the statement. I said that he gets what he deserves and I wasn't referring to him being actually mentally retarded/challenged in either a literal or phrase. Retarded doesn't necessarily equal stupid. Stupid is or can be just stupid. It's not a defense and it's not an excuse. He plainly made a wrong choice. But 14 is 14 and as an adult he still should have known better. And I still think Jones can be mentally stupid for a mentally stupid choice and not be mentally "retarded". I never referred to him being "retarded" unless we count that he "retarded" his future playing WoW & having a life for who knows how long because he now has a kidnapping plus probably sex with a minor on his record.

My whole thing about these articles is that they slanted a biased look into the situation. We all know how WoW relationships form- they are not usually all about a physical thing- they start with an emotional bond and flirting and friendship. And although Jones most certainly should know better from the start to get involved with a 14 year old, it may have been more a crime of passion than because he was a pervert from the start. /shrug If they dig up records that he had kiddie porn on his computer or has been in trouble before for assaulting young girls, then fine- I concede the idea that Jones has a past history of it.

But it still doesn't jive with me that the articles seem biased against Jones from the start:

I have always thought the media slants a story based on how they want a reaction from their readers- so I'm not surprised. I'm just saying that I see it in the articles above.

Thanks for the debate Warloff

Man accused of kidnapping Boise girl could face rape charges
By Kristin M. Kraemer, Herald staff writer

Morgan Jones and the teen girl he picked up in Boise reportedly were caught having sex Monday morning after a tipster led Franklin County sheriff's deputies to a remote campground.

Jones, 27, is accused of driving the 14-year-old girl from Boise to the Tri-Cities last week after the two developed a relationship through an interactive game on the Internet.

After a nationwide search, police tracked the pair to Palouse Falls State Park when fellow campers saw media reports of the missing runaway and called it in.

Now, Jones is being held on $50,000 bail while Franklin County prosecutors contemplate charging him with rape.

Sheriff's Deputy Chris Turner, who went to the park Monday morning, reported that "the victim was discovered unclothed with (Jones) in a tent," according to a statement written by Undersheriff Kevin Carle for Turner.

Both the girl and Jones, in separate interviews with investigators, admitted having sex on several occasions between May 29 and June 2, Carle wrote.

The girl, who turned 14 two months ago, was picked up by her mother earlier this week and returned home, said Sheriff Richard Lathim.

Jones will remain in the Franklin County jail at least until Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors in Franklin County and Ada County, Idaho, and federal prosecutors will share police reports in the next couple of days and talk about who has the best criminal case against him.

Franklin County Prosecutor Steve Lowe said "other Washington jurisdictions" are involved in the discussions.

"In looking at all these cases, we want to minimize impact to the victim and maximize the potential accountability to the suspect," Lowe said.

He noted that the girl has "been through quite a bit" in the past week.

"… We want to sit down and figure who has the best case. We don't want to make the victim transfer around from jurisdiction to jurisdiction to testify," he said.

Federal officials may look at the case for potential charges involving taking a minor across state lines for sexual purposes.

Jones already is charged in Ada County with first-degree kidnapping.

He waived his extradition Tuesday so he could be sent back to Boise to face that charge.

After Franklin County sheriff's investigators wrapped up their report earlier Wednesday, Lowe decided to hold Jones on suspicion of two counts of third-degree rape of a child, a felony.

Jones was advised of the investigative hold during a brief hearing in Superior Court.

Judge Vic VanderSchoor said Lowe must file charges by noon Friday or release him to the custody of Boise officials.

Jones and the teen met through the online game World of Warcraft.

Jones reportedly drove across the country from his home in Birmingham, Ala., to pick her up. She was reported missing from her Boise home May 28, which sparked a nationwide search.

The pair apparently were in Benton and Franklin counties the whole time.

Kennewick police have said Jones stayed at a west Kennewick hotel the night of May 28. The pair then moved to a campsite at Palouse Falls State Park, about 70 miles northeast of Pasco.

Campers who had returned to the Tri-Cities after spending the weekend at the state park reportedly recognized pictures of the girl and details of Jones' car from media reports.

Jones was arrested on the Boise kidnapping warrant.

On Wednesday, VanderSchoor ordered Jones to have no contact with the teen while the case is pending.

Deputy Prosecutor Dave Corkrum requested the high bail, saying these are serious allegations and Jones has no ties to the community.

VanderSchoor agreed to set it at $50,000.

Lowe said Wednesday that he "would be very surprised if there weren't charges filed."

The question is where and for what.

"I think everybody wants to make the right decision in this case," he said.

Now this article (above) gives facts that show that he's pretty much going to be considered a pedofile from these current actions-- the other articles simply started branding him as such before the details came out. I'm not naive, it was always possible that they were hooking up while they were "on the run" but the articles prior to this one already brandished him as a pedofile from article 1. What I was against was the clear (to me) bias against Jones from the start labeling him as targeting her without listing evidence in the previous articles.

I still say that she was not innocent from day 1 of all this and I know I'm straddling a fence here because I do see both sides. The law has to operate a certain way to protect underage kids- it makes perfect sence, I just wish that the underage kids that the laws are supposed to protect would stop acting like they aren't young teenagers to which the laws should apply. Kids aren't "asking for trouble" and yet they don't quite understand the impact of their judgements.

Anyway - blah blah blah. He still gets what he deserves and I hope that Saddie "Elaine" Julian has learned her lesson about what she's contributed to, since I'm sure she probably does really care about Jones (though that's speculation since no one is really reporting anything about her, it's just a feeling- given that she didn't freak out & call the cops the day that he showed up to pick her up).

Something else I thought of too...how, as a parent of Saddie, do you handle her when she comes home? I mean...I still doubt she was involuntarily abducted--that would be a whole other scenerio. But really. WTH do you do now that you have her back, so that it doesn't a) happen again b) she learns to make better decisions? And chances are she now has some kind of broken heart over the whole matter-- no way she's going to be able to see him again after this. I can't even fathom in my head how, as a parent, that situation could get better. >-<

This reminds me of a time when I was a young man living in Texas. I was relaxing at my appartment pool with a friend and this unbelievably gorgeous woman, full figured to perfect proportions, enters and starts swimming around. My buddy and me wasted no time, jumped in the pool, and started a conversation. That's when things started to not add-up. She looked 25 but talked like she was 10. Turns out, she was only 12 years old. OMFG - and she was extremely flirty. We got the hell out of the water before we ended-up as butt buddies in the bighouse.

It is very easy for a man to lose control to the little head. When that sucker wakes-up he'll make the big head do all kinds of stupid things on the spur of the moment. However, driving long distances like the guy in this story did would give a sensible man time to clear his thoughts. It appears to me he knew what he was doing.

Alabama man pleads guilty to intent to have sex with Boise teen

Published: 04/07/09

RICHLAND -- A 27-year-old Alabama man admitted Monday that he knew a Boise girl he met through an online game was only 14 when he traveled across the country to have a sexual relationship with her.

Morgan Douglas Jones pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in Richland to a reduced charge of travel for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct.
"Are you pleading guilty because you truly are guilty?" U.S. District Judge Edward Shea asked Jones.

"I am," Jones replied.

Shea also asked him if he was "fully aware" the girl was 14 at the time he drove to Idaho, picked her up and had sex with her.
Jones answered "Yes, sir" to each question.

Shea could order Jones to spend five to 10 years in federal prison when he's sentenced in July. Jones will be required to register as a sex offender and could face a lifetime of supervision once he's released.

Defense attorney Jim Egan plans to request supervision for 10 years after Jones' release, but the U.S. Attorney's Office plans to recommend supervised release for the rest of Jones' life.
The plea agreement details how Jones and the victim met through the internet game World of Warcraft, began a sexual relationship online and agreed to have Jones drive to Idaho so they could meet in person.

Stephanie Van Marter, the assistant U.S. attorney prosecuting the case, asked Shea to seal the plea agreement or allow her to redact certain parts of it that revealed information about the victim that hadn't been released before.

"I really loathe to seal this type of agreement," the judge said.

Van Marter recommended two sentences be blacked out from the section that detailed how Jones and the girl were found in a tent at Palouse Falls State Park in north Franklin County. She said it was requested by the victim's family.
Shea agreed to the minor redaction. He later noted the case has had some "notoriety" and said details about what happened should be released.

"I think it's a cautionary tale the community deserves to hear about," Shea said.

Jones, a pharmacist technician from Birmingham, met the Boise girl through the game and began chats of a sexual nature in February 2008, court documents said.

They talked online and met in private chat rooms using web cameras. Their online relationship intensified at the end of April, and in late May he agreed to drive to Idaho to meet her, documents said.

Jones and the victim told detectives that Jones arrived in Boise on May 27. Jones drove by her home and she went outside so he could see her. They were supposed to meet that day, but the victim was too scared, so Jones rented a hotel room, documents said.

The next day the two met near her house after her dad left for work. Jones said he offered her the choice of driving her to school or to run away with him, and she chose to go with him.
They went back to her house to pack, then drove to his hotel room. The girl told detectives they had planned to drive to Mexico, but Jones thought police would be watching the border so they decided to go to Yellowstone National Park.

Jones gave the victim alcohol and prescription pills, and they had sex multiple times during their trip, documents said. Their travel route was tracked through Jones' cell phone.

Boise detectives issued a kidnapping bulletin, listing information about the teen, Jones and his yellow Chevrolet Aveo with personalized Alabama plates.

Jones was arrested June 2 after campers who returned to the Tri-Cities saw the news stories and reported seeing the yellow car at Palouse Falls State Park. The teen was placed in protective custody and ultimately was turned over to her mother.

Jones had been charged in Franklin County Superior Court with kidnapping and child rape, but those charges were dropped when a federal grand jury indicted him for transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. That charge, which carried a stiffer prison sentence, will be dismissed once Jones is sentenced.
